There is nothing that will help you with making art but yourself. As I learned in art school the computer is a tool, like a paint brush. And personally speaking, I see little differences from Photoshop 7-8 CS1-CS3, they are all really the same things. Especially the CS Suite versions. That was just a “celebratory” release from Adobe for their purchase of Macromedia in my opinion. So unless you are buying the whole CS Suites there is no need.

You can find a tonne of tutorials on the web and even DVD for photoshop. People theorize about that program all the time. And really nobody knows more than 25% of it’s features, they are pretty infinate.

But if you must know the differences between Photoshop and say a free cheap one, they are numerous. Photoshop produces and algorythim that will remodulate your ink seperations, k what the hell does that mean? It will judge and edit your image upon saving it for oversaturations. Consider this, ink is a 4 colour process, 4 different inks being layed over each other. Which will give you a 400% maximum ink per image, in theory. Which is why some prints have so much ink on them. Photoshop will actually go into your specific ink channels and change the variables, so you won’t ever get anything over 100% ink saturation. Cheaper programs don’t do this. So you will always get a much better colour balanced and better printed image from Photoshop, in my opinion.
